So. My name is Meredith. I will be "femme" part of this blogging effort. I am an original member of the "Bathroom Club" from which sprang this blog. Aidan's and my musical tastes are very similar but hopefully we won't post the same stuff. My range of music likes are vast and are growing every day. That sounds like a sexual innuendo. haha. But I, like Aidan, will hopefully post at least once a week and will continue with the tradition of 5 songs. Let's get to it.
Mumford & Sons - this UK band is becoming the new British Invasion band. They only formed in 2007 in London and their popularity has been growing ever since. Their shows are selling out over the country. To me, they are returning to the stylization of the original folk singers: fantastic, thematic lyrics, beautiful harmonies, and making the banjo cool again. I had the pleasure of seeing them at a music festival this summer and never had heard a crowd so silent then rise together in applause once their set had ended. It was phenomenal!
Get those feet moving! Delorean, a group of four Basque lads currently based in Barcelona. When I heard they were from "Euskal Herria," I was intrigued. They just released their 3rd album Subiza on True Panther Sounds and are currently touring Europe and the US. I'm keeping my eye on these guys. They are gonna be huge on the club scene.
White Winter Hymnal by FLEET FOXES
So this is a slower, "folkier" jam but none the less amazing. Fleet Foxes formed around 2007 and their popularity has been growing and growing. For those who love those indie bands like Band of Horses, Edward Sharpe, Grizzly Bear and Bon Iver will love Fleet Foxes. Their harmonies kills. Each song on their self titled album Fleet Foxes sounds different. It's a great listen.
SOOO now I'm gonna switch the tone a bit. I'm gonna put some house/techno/dubstep in here. I need my dance music.
This has been my JAM all week. I found this after wastin' some time on Youtube. Gigamesh is not well known. He's out of Minneapolis and does a bunch of remix stuff. He has one with Animal Collective's My Girls. He is part of DiscoTech, a production group out of MN.
If you are a Radiohead fan like myself, you SHOULD think Radiohead with some house beats is phenomenal. I would have never thought to make "Everything in Its Right Place" into a house-like song, but it works. I would love to see him do "Atoms for Peace" or some stuff off of In Rainbows. Perhaps later down the road??
Garden by Dom
This guy is dope. It took me so long to find something by him that I could share. His name is DOM and he hails from the UK. He is with Clandestine Cultivations & Faisty Records, both dubstep labels. I really wish I could find "Below and Beneath" another song off of this album but it's nowhere online.
Well those are my five for the week. Perhaps this gives you guys a sense of my tastes. I hopefully will be posting some older stuff. All of these bands are fairly new but I am also a sucker for the oldies. Don't get me wrong! I will see you guys soon! PLEASSSEE give me feed back! I want to know what people think, what else they like/don't! I am always willing to hear outside influences!
