Canada Eh?

Happy Holidays/New Years/(I guess that's a holiday...)
I, like most college students, returned home for the holidays. My Christmas morning started around 6am when I made my way to Newark airport, and after a bumpy flight, finally arrived in The Great White North in the mid-morning. Since being back here, I've encountered old friends, old bars and clubs we used to frequent, and of course, a whole lot of great Canadian music that I haven't heard in a while, or just plain haven't heard. 


So here's a couple songs proving that Canada is good for so much more then maple syrup, hockey, and polar bears. Enjoy a taste of the North.


Crystal Castles - Empathy (Noise/Electric)


Honesty, I didn't realize that Crystal Castles were from Canada until I moved away from this glorious country. This duo actually formed when Alice Glass (the vocalist) was only 15 and playing in an unsigned Noise band in Toronto. Long story short, Crystal Castles came together after producer Ethan Kath saw Glass' band's performance in a bar in downtown Toronto. 


MSTRKRFT - Bounce (A-Trak Remix) (Electric/Dance)


Here's a double Canadian song posting for you. MSTRKRFT, straight from the Beaches in Toronto, Ontario, being remixed by Montreal's A-Trak. Enjoy this bumpin' club hit.

Oh, Zed's Dead. Where do I even begin? An amazing Dubstep duo from Toronto that plays a show at a bar called Wrong Bar every Wednesday night. If you're ever in Toronto on a Wednesday, you now know where to go.

First of all, I'm terribly terribly sorry that it's been a whole week since either of us has posted anything. However, as we all know, its that time of the year where every college student doesn't see the light of day for about a week and a half. Yep, it's time for Finals. Now, this is unfortunate because the vast majority of people that I speak to listen to music while studying, and I thought it would be nice to share some great music for you to listen to whilst studying. When I asked friends (and some strangers resulting in a lot of strange looks), I found that there isn't really one common genre of music people listen to while studying.


 I assumed that people listened to music with a generally slower beat and more laid back feel, yet found out that's only the case with a handful of people. Personally, the type of music I listen to when studying varies from day to day, sometimes in very extreme ways. For example, I find that a good playlist of Glitchy music really keeps me on my toes when studying or doing work. The rough sounds and heavy kicks and snares really keep my mind going and alert, and the instrumentals are perfect then there are no words to cloud my brain. With all that said, another genre I find really good to listen while trying to get through a whole book of notes or writing a massive paper is definitely Hip Hop. A great Hip Hop playlist or album keeps me nodding my head through whatever it is I'm trying to finish. Quick and witty rhymes sometimes get me caught up and distracted from what I'm trying to process, but they inspire me to grunt through and get it done. 


There needs to be more really good Glitch-Hop. 


So, even though finals are almost over for most, here's a couple of my favourite songs to listen to while staying up all night filling my brain to it's limits with course content that usually doesn't even appear on the final itself. Enjoy.


Mos Def - Mathematics(Hip Hop/Rap)


What's there to say about Mos Def. He is just all around incredible. Also, it was his birthday earlier this week. So happy belated, and don't ever stop doing what you're doing. 


Das Racist - Nutmeg(Hip Hop/Rap)


Unreal rap ground out of Brooklyn, Das Racist comes straight at you, no holds, with an absolutely dizzying rhyme schemes and word plays. Have a listen, and check out their whole mix tape. 


Boreta - Bubblin' In The Cut(Glitch/Electric)


First of two members of The Glitch Mob I'll be posting tonight, Boreta brings us this fantastic Glitchy, almost Hip Hop-py track. Anytime this track comes on, well...my brain turns off and listens to it BUT! Once it's over I can power through notes like you wouldn't believe.

For everyone who hasn't heard edIT before, he's super glitchy. So if you're not into the Glitch genre, this song might not be for you. However if you ARE into the Glitch genre, this song may make you a very very happy person.

Hello everyone. I'm not gonna lie, for the past couple days the only thing I've been listening to is the new Deadmau5 album. I'm still trying to come to terms with it, but that's what tomorrow night is for. Tonight, I give you...some more hip hop! Still always good.


Hocus Pocus (feat. The Procussions) - Hip Hop


Things I love about this:
          1) The funky beat in the background makes it impossible NOT to nod your head.
          2) French rap always makes me happy, because its a whole different game then we got here in North America.
          3) Got some really good rhymes from The Procussions.
          4) I could go on for days. Just listen.


Chemical Brothers (feat. K-OS) - Get You High


Chemical Brothers? Always good. Canadian Indie/Hip Hop artist K-OS? Also good. Mixed together is a really bumpin' song. Have a Listen.


Shad - Rose Garden


I know, I know, Shad again? This is of his most recent album, which came out earlier this year. Really great beat, awesome sampling, and very tight lyrics from Shad. Also, the video is very, very well done, and its a fantastic concept. If you like it, the rest of the album is just as good. And yes, he is also from Canada. Straight out of London, Ontario. 

I like Jellybeans

I don't know why I chose that title. haha. I thought it was funny. So as we are heading into finals week, I feel as though I need to post so "get wild" while studying music. In other words, music to help me pull that all nighter as we members of the "Procrastination Generation" tend to do. Our brains are gonna be the size of peas by the time we are 40. I hope people know that Insomnia/Lack of sleep shrinks your brain. If not here is a link to more info! haha

This guy, Bart B More, is an up and coming Dutch export. Bart B More’s Dutch debut “Newschool Cuts EP” was a massive smash in Holland, a mainstay in the DJ boxes of all the top Dutch jocks. He had continued to catch the attention of producers, like Bob Sinclair. His production company is in full swing so look for him down the road!



Nom nom nom! I could eat these beats all day! CCC is a British group aaannnd thats about all I could find on them. They have been around for a while and have actually released 8 EPs. Keep the bakery going!



Dirty Disco Youth. What a great name. This guy, Phil Speiser, is actually only 19 and originates from Vienna, Austria. Being hyped as the new “Wunderkind” gigs at the big electro events and interviews at radio and tv stations followed, as well as positive articles and features in several magazines. IE Another hot act to watch. This song has a particular feel of Daft Punk songs. Madd good!

Amity Affliction - Fire Or Knife



First up on the docket, The Amity Affliction's 'Fire or Knife'. The Amity Affliction named their band in memory of one of their first band mates who was killed in a car accident when he was 17. Amity refers to friendship and Affliction refers to the struggles of dealing with such a loss. Having lost a friend in a car accident at 16, I respect this band a shit ton. This song is off their second album 'Youngbloods' released earlier this year and is one of my faves to blast in my headphones.


Bury Tomorrow - You & I



Next up, 'You & I' by Bury Tomorrow. I was searching the inter webs for tid bits of info on this band and came across this biography:
Bury Tomorrow were formed in 2006 when a freak Nuclear spill contaminated Adam Jackson giving him superhuman drumming skills thus becoming known only as ‘El Metronome’.
Armed with his new powers he let out a battle cry calling forth any suited heroes to join him in his quest for metal glory. The cry was answered by 4 intrepid similar nuclear mishaps; Mehdi aka ‘Fingerboy’ with the ability to pick up any guitar and shred; Jason aka ‘Soundwave’ blessed with a voice that can reach notes that only small animals and people with hearing aides can hear; and the two brothers Danni aka ‘Cpt Sonica’ with a growl that could stop a lion in its tracks and Davyd aka ‘The Animal’ … well capable of being animal like. Together they are The Metalcore Quintet ‘BURY TOMORROW’.
I don't need to say anymore.


Periphery - The Walk



PEEEEERIPHERY! Listening to this band makes me blow a load. Periphery signed a one record deal with Sumerian Records (which they released earlier this year, on 4:20) and have been touring and supporting bands like DevilDriver, Emmure, God Forbid, The Dillinger Escape Plan and Fear Factory since 2008. There's not much else to say about Periphery, JUST LISTEN.


A Day To Remember - The Downfall Of Us All



N-E-X-T! 'The Downfall Of Us All' by one of my all time fave bands, A Day To Remember. It was difficult to pick one song by them to post but this one always make me smile when it comes on and I have no choice but to turn it up. I love them because they mix two different genres of music. When Jeremy McKinnon, lead singer, was asked about their sound he said 'It's weird. See it's funny because we have been doing this for so long. When we started, this shit was not cool. EVERYONE told us mixing the two genres wouldn't work. Hell, a lot of people still feel that way. We’ve just always played what we wanted to hear, and to be honest people weren't doing it back then. We loved pop punk, we loved hardcore bands, and we couldn’t decide what to be. So we said fuck it. Let’s do them both.' And they pull it off.


Asking Alexandria - The Final Episode (Lets Change The Channel)



Save the best for last. Asking Alexandria = pure raw sex. I can't even concentrate after watching/listening to this video. If you haven't heard Asking Alexandria then sit back, relax, give your ears a little slice of heaven, and fall in love.

Songs For Insomniacs.

So this weekend, I've pretty much been Mr. Lame. I spent Friday night at home, and now tonight as well. But that's fine, no problem here. It gives me time to rest, recoup, and get some good old fashion thinking done. As the weather's getting colder, my mind tends to wander aimlessly looking for something to hold on to. Sometimes it wanders too much, and keeps me up at night. So here are a couple nice songs to knock you out if you're lame like me, and are spending some quality time with yourself tonight. 


The Rocket Summer - Christmas Present


I actually just started listening to The Rocket Summer a little while ago, and this song is just so nice. I love songs that are more instrumental then verse, and that's exactly what this song is. 


Ben Gibbard - Brand New Colony (Acoustic)


Oh Ben Gibbard. Seriously, in my own opinion, I think he's incredible. His lyrics are always so fantastical and inspiring. This is him covering his band The Postal Service's "Brand New Colony", which I almost think is better then the original. If you haven't heard his acoustic stuff, you should really give it a listen. 


City And Colour - Comin' Home


Now, I can't say that I'm a huge fan of Dallas Green, but I can say that I love this song. For those of you who aren't aware, City And Colour is the solo project of Dallas Green from the Canadian Hardcore band Alexisonfire. I think the reason why I'm not such a huge fan of his is because when he first dropped a single, they played the shit (excuse my language) out of it on Canadian radio, and continued to do the same with every single he dropped. This song just stuck with me, and I usually listen to it any time I'm, you guessed it, Comin' Home. 

Rabble, rabble, rabble, rabble, rabble

Happy Friday everyone!! I hope your weeks went well and your weekend go even better. So I have been hearing a few new good bands that I thought I should share with you. They are on the indie side. I feel like more and more I'm moving away from the electronic music into more instrumental stuff. Not a bad thing. Electronic music is always there but I need some softer jams for now. Here are a few I have recently been obsessed with.



Ola Podrido hails from Austin and is headed by film composer David Wingo. This album came out in 2007 so its a little old. The rest of his album is fantastic. Check him out!




This girl is awesome. She is from New Jersey but has a crazy Bluegrass sound. Nuts. She just released her album in 2009 and is currently on tour. Watch out for this girl.





The Acorn. What is there to say? These guys are from Canada (woot reppin the maple!). They have been together since 2003 and have released 7 albums. This is off their 2007 album. They just released their new album No Ghost.

Flip Hop

Good evening everyone. Or rather, good morning. The other day after deciding to kick some ass and clean my grunge filled hole I call a bedroom, I started (quite out of the blue) to really want to listen to some Hip Hop. So now I'm on a slight Hip Hop binge, and you all get to come along for the ride. Here are three amazing rappers that I just can't stop listening to right now.


Shad - Out Of Love Pt. 2


So, of course I have to post up some Shad. Amazing rapper out of London (Ontario), this is off his second album "The Old Prince". That was when I actually started listening to him, and his lyrics were always so clever and he had a nice rhyming structure. Haven't gotten around to listening to all of his newest album "TSOL", but best believe, I will be.


Mos Dub - History Town


One of the most recent from Mash-up artist Max Tannone, well known for Jaydiohead among many other amazing Mash-up albums, this whole album is Mos Def's quick witted rhymes with some awesome Reggae beats backing them up. 


Kid CuDi - Up, Up and Away (The Wake & Bake Song)


I, also just recently, started to get really into Kid CuDi. He has a catalog of songs showcasing his numerous talents. From straight dirty rap tracks, to catchy numbers like this one here. Thanks Mr. Cudi. Keep doing what you're doing.

TokiMonsta is a fantastic Glitchy, Snyth-y musician out of L.A. Fantastically laid back, and extremely easy to listen to. Definitely worth checkin out.

WE'RE BACKK!!!!

Woah. It's been a while. Thanksgiving really caught up with us. Aidan and I have been on break for a while so sorry for not posting tunes. We have both been going through some funks the past week too so in response to that, I wanna post some good beats to get the heart pumping and to dance it out. DANCE THE STRESS AWAYYYYYYYYY. It's almost Chrissy!!

Nostalgic For Romance.

So, for the past little while I've been thinking back on times way in the past, specifically, times involving music and romance. Ever have "our song" with someone? Come on, we know we all have. And we know that every once in a while, that song will come around some time in your life, and you'll be flooded with memories, both good and bad. And no matter whats going on in your life, that one moment will bring you back to a completely different time in your life, and you'll stop, and say to yourself, "Fuck, time flys."

Of course I'd start with this song. How could anybody NOT remember this song. This is that classic love song that someone had to do, and of course, Blink 182 did it better than anyone every could have.

This is more of a "post-love" song, but it's still a fantastic song. I love the harmonies with Lights, but most of all, I just love Lights. I've become well acquainted with the fact that she will be my future wife. Thanks.

Oh man this song. This was the only middle school love song for me. This song just has so many memories attached. I need a minute...

El Cuarto de Leo (Leo's Room)


Friday I saw this film at a free screening at school. It has won quite a few awards since its making and I can see why. This beautiful film about discovery is one of the better movies I have seen in a while. Unfortunately, it's won't be a very popular movie in the States but someone will hopefully see it after this post. What stood out for the me the most was the soundtrack. The songs were fantastic. Here are a couple I loved.

I'm Only Sleeping take one

So last night consisted of me falling asleep at 7:30 and I was out. Mahhhh B. I'm guessing today we will have two posts which is fine. I'm sure Aidan's post will be VERY different from mine.

Today's post is another dedicated post. With the new ability to buy their library from iTunes, I wanted to dedicate this post to The Beatles. I never understood why some people didn't like them. For me, they have been a saving grace in my life since I was little. My parents about my brother and I the "1' album when it dropped and I have been hooked ever since. As their career lasted over ten years, their discography is VASTTTTT so picking out songs has been a challenge.

Turbo P - Kittens(House/Glitch/Dance)

Turbo P as per usual kicks out some massive house beats, with fantastic drops too. Best of all worlds.


Pretty Lights - How We Do(Glitch/Hip-Hop/Electric)


This song is a great slow electric beat that builds with some killer glitchy-ness and evolves into a full blown orchestrated piece of magic.


Evil Nine - All The Cash (Glitch Mob Remix) (Glitch/Hip-Hop)


Of course I would post Glitch Mob. These three guys are a huge leader in the Glitch music genre. You can always expect to hear some really good crunchy sounds when they're around.

Sorry, I just had to sneak another Glitch Mob remix in here. Either my brain is shutting down, or they really are tough to put a genre to. Anyways, they're amazing and I'm waiting the day they swing by my neck of the woods so I can enjoy their glitchy beauty.

So I'm gonna bring it back to those times when we were weeeee babes. the 1990s. Unfortunately, I was just a baby in diapers for the first years of the 90s but doesn't mean I don't appreciate the music from that time period. I am not gonna bore with boy band and pop singer crap. I admit, being the elementary school girl I was, I was obsessed with those musicians at the time (oddly I loved Lance Bass, which was complete foreshadowing of my future hahaha) but as my musical tastes have changed over the years, I have grown to love the alternative/grunge/punk rock going on at the time. Here are some of my favorites. Please suggest more.

Good day ladies and gentleman. I posted this last night, but according to blogger, I didn't. So it looks like I'm gonna have to try again. Maybe the post was too dirty. Moving along. This was my mood last night, and still is. Here are some of the dirtiest dubstep songs that I've heard recently, because everybody needs a little dirt in their ears every once in a while. ALSO! Look for a collaborated super post tonight, maybe even a little surprise from myself and Meredith as tonight, The Bathroom Session gets back together for one more trip to the bathroom. 

Rusko - Hold On (feat Amber Coffman) (Sub Focus Remix)

This track is unreasonably dirty. The initial drop is unreal, and I love when they bring it back around near the end. With bass so heavy you could bite off a piece and chew it, Sub Focus shows us why they're the shit.


iSquare - Hey Sexy Lady (Scrillex Remix)


Amazing. Drop like Godzilla's foot. Have a listen to this song and shit a ferret.


Boregore - Guided Relaxation Dub


If you don't know Boregore, you should. They are the absolute dirtiest. ABSOLUTE.

What's My Age Again?

Today, my inner middle school and high school self is coming out. Currently I just want to either run 10000 miles or go punch someone in the face. As this blog is an alternative to these two vices, I will put music from these, as my friends from these time call it, "angsty" times. I thought as I grew up these feelings would subside. Apparently not. However, since I have no changed my iPod since 8th grade all of these wonderful songs are still around to listen to. Here are some of those for when you wanna just scream. Hello everyone. I hope this week has been well for all of you. Here are a great four songs that really have nothing in common.

DEAD AIR SPACE

So this is gonna be another dedicated blog. This one is to one of my all time favorite bands Radiohead. Radiohead came into my life pretty late- only about two years ago. My best friend Laura introduced me to them. I remember waking up to Radiohead almost everyday two years ago. Great times.

I think Radiohead is one of the most musically complex bands today. They actually care about using interesting chords in their music. Some critics say the instability of their chords shows lack of musicianship, but I think Radiohead does it for the purpose of having a unique sound. Their music videos are artistically engaging too. Unfortunately on YouTube they are under EMI and have the embedding disabled on them. However, Radiohead as a band is very giving to their fans. They actually gave away their last album, In Rainbows, as a free download.

SORRY FOR BEING MIA!!! Halloween came and I went on an adventure for four days. I'm now finally back to normal and ready to start posting again. Aidan and I have been discussing and we are gonna decrease our song content on here to three songs per post. We are getting a little overwhelmed at the moment and need to cut back. Also, gonna be a lazzy bum AGAIN and not give you guys descriptions but just share some music with you guys.

The Big Bang - N.A.S.A.

SO! Instead of just giving you a couple songs tonight, I decided to give you guys an album. This! (Holy shit) This, is N.A.S.A.'s sophomore album, even though the first one took 5 YEARS! They managed to drop another album a year after they shook the music scene with "Spirit Of Apollo". This album however, to the root, is a Remixed album. "Lame" you're thinking. "Wrong" I'm telling you. With LA Riots and Mr Oizo stepping in for the fun, this album bumps. BUMPS! And from me to you, here's a link to download it. Free!
