Zedd - Autonomy (Cold Blank Remix)

So this is originally by Zedd, a German house dj who is quickly getting famous. He just was announced on the line up for Ultra in Miami. He is currently signed to mau5trap and is playing with huge names like Skrillex. Here is his SoundCloud with lots of his remixes. Cold Blank (Christopher Gaspar Isla and Manuel Luquin) are a Los Angeles based Electronic House duo who are blowing up too! Here's their SoundCloud. Freshhhhhh!



MiMOSA - Lullabyte

This is off MiMOSA's album called Hostilis. Mimosa is a dubstep/glitch hop/dub-hop dj. He currently works in LA but is originally from the Bay Area. His other albums are Flux for Life, Psychedelic Stereo, and Silver Lining. Here's his SoundCloud. His beats are prettty sick. Very chill.
He's also coming to NYC!!! For those of you in the area, he's playing at Irving Plaza on March 31st. Here's the link for tix and info!

Oldie but Goodie. Literally this has been on REPEAT for the last week and a half. It's my new anthem haha. I didn't get to see him perform at Webster Hall :'(...MAU!!! Hopefully he will come to Electric Zoo this year!!! He just got picked up at Ultra too so congrats to him!!
I'm sure most of you guys know who Skrillex is/know he's getting huge, etc, etc... His new album is DOPE, too. I just think he's incredible and just the cutest haha! Here's his SoundCloud as well!

I love that all these artists are using SoundCloud. I think it's the new way to interact with fans. I.E. bringing the fans closer to the musician, hopefully breaking down the barriers of of "celebrity". I'm all for it.

Also, I have this great track I just discovered today.. from 2008 but oh well. Not dubstep but still wicked good.

After a few very long nights, I realized that anytime that I post here, it's usually after midnight. With that being said, I couldn't decide whether this post should be called the Saturday Seven, or the Sunday Seven. Luckily, either one would still satisfy my desire to make the title a witty alliteration. 

Moving on. Tonight/This morning I'm posting a nice seven song playlist for you guys. This sorta thing is probably going to become a regular thing around here, usually with a different theme. This time, I'm gonna go with a sweet seven song set of Drum and Bass that may or may not somehow end in a little Dubstep... Enjoy!

Canada Eh?

Happy Holidays/New Years/(I guess that's a holiday...)
I, like most college students, returned home for the holidays. My Christmas morning started around 6am when I made my way to Newark airport, and after a bumpy flight, finally arrived in The Great White North in the mid-morning. Since being back here, I've encountered old friends, old bars and clubs we used to frequent, and of course, a whole lot of great Canadian music that I haven't heard in a while, or just plain haven't heard. 


So here's a couple songs proving that Canada is good for so much more then maple syrup, hockey, and polar bears. Enjoy a taste of the North.


Crystal Castles - Empathy (Noise/Electric)


Honesty, I didn't realize that Crystal Castles were from Canada until I moved away from this glorious country. This duo actually formed when Alice Glass (the vocalist) was only 15 and playing in an unsigned Noise band in Toronto. Long story short, Crystal Castles came together after producer Ethan Kath saw Glass' band's performance in a bar in downtown Toronto.

Oh, Zed's Dead. Where do I even begin? An amazing Dubstep duo from Toronto that plays a show at a bar called Wrong Bar every Wednesday night. If you're ever in Toronto on a Wednesday, you now know where to go.

Hello everyone. This is my first entry of a new blog I like to call "The Bathroom Session." I recently had an experience where I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning listening to music on a bathroom floor with two people I had just met. Besides the fact that our musical tastes were quite similar, it gave me a great opportunity to discover some new stuff that I have yet to hear of, so I figured in order to stay aware of these great bands and people and songs, everybody needed a bathroom session every once in a while.

I'll attempt to post songs whenever I can, but I'll mainly post them in groups of 5 songs, with a little blurb about each one. Songs may vary from indie, house, dubstep, rap, hip hop...basically whatever I'm feeling in the mood for. So lets start things off with the first song:

Röyksopp - Happy Up Here (House/Dance/Indie)



This is the song I was listening to when I decided to start this blog, so it was only fitting that it was the first song I picked. It's a great song by a great duo out of Norway. Always manages to put a smile on my face. It is a year old, and I actually haven't gotten around to listening to their newest album, but you better believe I will. This song, besides from having a great music video, has a kicking beat, and a catchy tune that you'll probably be whistling for a while. 


Beastie Boys - Intergalactic (Gentleman Theives Remix)(Hip Hop/House)


Stumbled across this gem one night while on a Beastie Boy Binge (the triple 'B'). Its a great remix that mashes an late 90s hip hop track, with almost a disco feel to it. Its a remix that remains true to the original, with all original lyrics, song structure, and speed, yet is so completely different, by the end it's hard to even remember what the original sounded like. Enjoy the trippy, spacey breakdowns, and ESPECIALLY the last verse, which is played on the off beat. Makes you wish the song would never end.


GDP - Gonzo Journalism (Rap/Hip Hop)


A bit of a switch from the last two tracks, but this one's awesome in its own special way. This a very dirty rapper from the suburban white town of West Orange, NJ. He's not signed to a major label...yet. Look for him though. He's been around for a while, and he's still pretty young. This is a song about, well, drugs mainly. Its just a quicky, but has a fantastic backing beat. His rhyming style is a little different, but once you hear a line or two, you'll pick up on it right away. 


Miike Snow - Silvia(Indie/House)


If you don't know who Miike Snow is, you need to crawl out from under your rock and throw some headphones on. Miike Snow is a Swedish trio who've dropped only one album which was self titled, but they've remixed the likes of Passion Pit and Vampire Weekend and have caught the attention of numerous genre heads. Keep an eye out for some new stuff from them around the bend. This is one of those tracks thats got a really slow and dramatic feel to it, mixed with a more upbeat brighter backing beat. Oh yeah, and watch out about halfway through the song when you get an uncontrollable urge to bob your head. 


Proxy - Decoys(House/Dubstep)


Ending things with a bang. This is a great dance-y dubstep-y track I wandered upon. Its has a really dirty, heavy feel to it, like most dubstep, but without as many of the wobbles and break beats. I really enjoyed this song while driving, especially at night. However not the best dubstep I've heard, and certainly not the best house I've heard, this provides a nice little halfway house for all you Electro fans.
